Douglas A. McArthur “Little Papa”
- CHELMSFORD – Douglas A. “Dougie” McArthur, 73, a resident of North Chelmsford and former resident of Lexington and Belmont, passed away at home on January 11, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Susan J. (Outhet) McArthur to whom he was married for 47 years.
Doug was born in Waltham on March 30, 1944 and was the son of the late Arthur F. McArthur and Evelyn M. (Gowen) McArthur.
From 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1968, Doug served in the United States Air Force. Following his enlistment, he started his 30-year career as a Firefighter for the Town of Belmont. Doug had a love of many things including corvettes and his non-club, ‘The Stray Dogs’, all Boston sports and bowling. You could also always find Doug making friends at local baseball games and other events around town.
In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kerin and Carl R. Erickson of Chelmsford and his sister and brother-in-law, Susan Donovan and her husband, Paul of Lunenburg. He was most proud of his two grandsons, Carl D. and Connor Erickson of Chelmsford. He also leaves his nephews Martin Jones of Chelmsford and Robert MacArthur of Leominster and niece Jody Wilson of Grapevine, Texas. He was the brother of the late Robert F. MacArthur and Jessie Mae MacArthur.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 16, 2018 from 4 until 8 PM in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday morning at 10 AM. Interment with military honors will follow in Heart Pond Cemetery, CHELMSFORD.
